Pointer joined Bakwena and Trucking Wellness – Johannesburg 11 Oct 2016

Our lovely sales rep Justine is closely affiliated with the Bakwena N1N4 group and went along to the Wellness Trucking event held at the Mantsoletcc weigh bridge truck stop on the N1 in Polokwane.

44 Truckers passed by and along with Bakwena we encourage them to stop and take note of the driver safety information being given out, as well as take a blood test to determine if they require any medical assistance. A fantastic day all round and we hope that the truckers found some insight in the information being provided.

Pointer SA in conjunction with FS Fleet Management, an approved dealer, sponsored the Cheetah Challenge Karate Super League event in Bloemfontein  – 20 August 2016.

Karate is one of the top 5 sports in the world with more than 140 countries completing at the World Championships. Unfortunately in South Africa Karate is not supported by sponsors, and this prohibits the Karateka of South Africa to reach their full potential. Pointer believes in supporting the community and FS Fleet Management who are an approved dealer of Pointer SA, work closely with the Karate Super League.

Pointer SA JHB team were invited to take part in a charity event for the Wheel Well organisation in aid of promoting safety in vehicles for children and improving the use of the car seat.

The event took place at the Irene Golf club and the goal was to host a hole and challenge the golfers to a game. Pointer setup a game whereby the golfers had to roll a Pointer stress ball up a ramp into a hole. If they lost they donated some money towards the charity. Needless to say all the golfers were in good spirits and Pointer SA were named the top host for the day by bringing in the most funds for the charity donations.

It was loads of fun and the golfers were very generous and the event was a success.

Mandela Day Feed a Child event 18 July 2016 – Mooiplaas

School group shot

The JHB team of Pointer SA were invited to attend a charity day with Feed a Child and help them to feed the children of the Mooiplaas township in Centurion. 11 staff members attended and helped by making over 500 sandwiches for the children as well as donating their time to fixing up a safe house which is home to 8 children. They had a great time helping out and had the chance to go into the townships nursery and primary school to feed the kids and spend a little time with them.

This is definitely a worthy cause and was organised and managed expertly by the Feed a Child team. Pointer SA will be making this an annual event.

Green Youth Indaba

Youth Indaba 3

The Annual Green Youth Indaba 2016 was held at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria between 29 – 30 June 2016.
In partnership with Johannesburg City Parks Pointer SA was invited to give a Sales and Marketing Lecture to young Entrepreneurs.
Part of the group of entrepreneurs included Narysec (National Rural Youth Service Corps). The young entrepreneurs were eager to gasp as much information on starting up a business, and our Sale Manager Dian Govender attended and spoke to the audience with the intention of passing on her wealth of knowledge and experience.

More youth are encourage to start up different businesses in their communities to not only provide services within close proximity but develop and job creation within the community. Pointer SA (Dian Govender – Sales Manager) “I was extremely moved by this initiative. Talking to young entrepreneurs, their ideas and some of the work they have done. It is incredible to see how many young people starting up Green businesses in their communities. Not only for income but working towards a sustainable future”. The Youth speak with such passion and energy which gives us hope that South Africa and the world is going to be a sustainable environment”.

In November 2015 the Pointer SA marketing team were approached by one of our staff to support a local cricket club in Durban. Pointer saw this as an opportunity to give back to the community and we are very excited to be part of this initiative.

Umkomaas is a town situated on the southern coastlands of KZN. The town is a well known beach and fishing destination. What is not well known is that the youth of the area are mostly from poorer backgrounds and are raised in an environment where gangs and other criminal elements run rife. This obviously has a negative impact on the youth growing up in the area.

The community of Umkomaas has a love for cricket and has many potential South African cricket stars in the making, but the schools of the area do not have the funds or ability to invest in the grounds and equipment that is needed to improve and promote their youth cricket programmes.

When we were approached by Neresh, one of our engineers who is based in the area and is affiliated with the team to sponsor their uniforms, we saw this as an opportunity that should not be overlooked. The Umkomaas Cricket Club strives to give back to their community and support the rising stars in their town. The mission of the club is to keep the youth occupied in sports and through sports, unit them with their academic environment. Their hope is to keep the youth away from drugs and crime, and they are doing an amazing job. The club is registered with the Umzinto Cricket and Districts Union, as well as the Challenge League.

In the 2014/15 season Ukmomaas club won the Challenge League as well as the Knock out Cup played under the Umzinto Cricket and District Union. For the 2015/16 season the club is affiliated with Merebank Cricket Union and will play in the Durban and Districts Cricket Union 1st Division league. This will form an ideal platform for their youngsters to showcase their talent and hopefully one day represent KZN Dolphins and maybe one day the Proteas. Pointer will keep an eye on these players and look forward to seeing them in the spotlights one day.

Sponsorship opportunities for Pointer are plentiful, but we truly believe in promoting our South African youth and giving back to our community. Sponsoring the Umkomaas Cricket Club with their uniforms was a true pleasure and we take pride in the pictures we received from the club in their new uniforms.
